The quaint pedestrian footbridge over the River Thames at Twickenham is a reminder of the many famous-to-be musicians that strutted their stuff on stage at the now long-gone Eel Pie Hotel on the island. The said hotel would rock in the Swinging Sixties to the sounds of such bands as The Yardbirds, Moody Blues, The Who, Deep Purple and the Rolling Stones - just to name a few. And many years before this, a certain famous writer called Charles Dickens used to frequent Eel Pie Island for day trips by boat.
